Sespe Hotsprings

Last week the wife and I took Cody dog backpacking for a few days out to Sespe Hotsprings.   We had to pack a little heavy since we had a winter storm forecast to blow through, but had a great time and a nice hot soak here's some pictures from the trip
We left from the Piedra Blanca trailhead in the early afternoon on tuesday, a storm was forecast for the later in the day so our plan was to hike as far as we could make it before rain or dark overtook us.

Here's Cody all packed up and ready to go!

 Clouds rolling in!

Quick break at Bear Creek.

Winter day along the Sespe.

It is a well maintained trail without much elevation change we were able to make it to the Oak Flats campground by the time the rain started, here's cody supervising me unpacking.

It rained for most of the night then started snowing sometime after midnight.  We woke to clear skies and a dusting of snow.

 Overseeing us packing

Wed morning was chilly, we slowly packed our gear, had a cup of coffee then hit the trail to warm up. We took a break near Willett for a hot breakfast, but did not stay to check out the hotsprings there.

Quick stop checking out Sespe camp, almost to the springs.

Finally we made it to the springs, the area is really barren with a hot creek running through, lots of tracks and scat from the local population of bighorn sheep, but we didn't see any this time.

Testing the water before we get in for a HOT soak, it felt so nice after a couple of days on the trail

Cody wanted nothing to do with warm water, here he is taking a break while we soak.

Here's a little clip showing the water boiling as it comes out of the hillside

We cooked a few eggs in a mesh sack dipped into the spring, they came out perfect.

Our third day was a long hike out, we covered all the same ground as our hike in but in one day rather than two, good trail and lighter packs.  Our final tally for the trip was 30 miles in three days and two nights, very nice to get home to hot shower, cold beer and a couple of Pizzas.
